The Prototyping Studio is a cutting-edge makerspace located in the Newman Library at Virginia Tech. This facility provides free access to specialized equipment including 3D printers, electronic tools, laser cutters, CNC machines, vacuum formers, clay modeling supplies, sewing machines, and screen printing gear. With an extensive collection of hand tools also available, students can bring virtually any creative vision to life at no cost.

Reimagining the Space

A print locker would provide organization and security to 3D prints awaiting pickup, while also serving as a sort of museum, providing visual interest to the space. A kiosk would allow students to enter a unique code in order to open the locker to receive their prints, without relying on an attendant to be present.
